Movin' on....

Friday was the last day I would enter this building as the Court Reporter Supervisor. For the past 13+ years I have worked in this building and supervised 65-70 staff members. Over the years friendships have been made - I will miss them!

Last week I was advised during a brief meeting that I was being reassigned to supervise at the Carol Miller Traffic Court on Power Inn Road. The reasons vary but I think the bottom line was the budget.
Goodbye's are always difficult for me and my preference was to pretend that Friday was just another day and leave the office and not look back. It seemed overwhelming to say goodbye to everyone and express my feelings. Grateful, the reporters did not listen to me (it has happened several other times over the years!) A pot luck luncheon was organized! It turned out to be a day I will always remember.
I worried that no one would show up - but I was overwhelmed with the response. Reporters from our juvenile and dependency courts that I supervised several years ago all came.....

Happy Birthday Ed!

Ed and I have discovered over the past few years that birthdays just aren't as fun as they used to be. Not that we aren't grateful to have them - considering the alternative! Friday was Ed's birthday and we celebrated with family and friends at Outback Restaurant. For Ed's gift, Britt, Pat, Shyla, and I went in on a Motorcycle Safety Class for Ed to attend. He wants to ride a motorcycle and by taking this course he will recieve his license and some safety training.

I'm not thrilled over the prospect of him riding a motorcycle but I think at our age - if he really wants to do something - he should go for it. Happy Riding!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!

The July 4th we attended our Ward's 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast and bike parade held at the Main Avenue building.

Susan Seamon is the chair of the ward's activity committee and always does a great job. We had pancakes, sausage, plenty of fresh fruit and a selection of milk, orange juice, or water to drink.

Ed volunteered to be a cook. He wasn't convinced to wear his new hat until he realized how cute he looked and that everyone wanted an opportunity to try it on. It was a big success and we will keep it for next years party.

The kiddies decorated their bikes, put on there red, white, and blue outfits and road in the bike parade that followed breakfast. Since Kiyoko was a little small to ride a bike, Britt decorated his small motorcycle and rode with Kiyoko in the parade.

Temple Tuesday's Continue...

I have attended the temple every Tuesday since March 31, 2009. It has been a wonderful experience. I look forward each week for Tuesday afternoon. We have been blessed!

BLACK and WHITE BAPTISM PARTY!

For the past several weeks, our Family Home Evening group has been attending a Family History Class during Sunday School. We are learning how to use the New Family Search program that is sponsored by the Church. To reinforce our Sunday lessons, we have used our Family Home Evening on Monday nights to review and practice what we were taught on the previous Sunday.

It was during these evenings that we decided to research our family names and reserve an evening at the temple to perform these important earthly ordinances.

In the process of doing some research, it was discovered that Ed and Judy's family lines had been slave owners in the South prior to 1870. In the 1870 census, several of these families had black domestic servants living in their homes. The conclusion being, that they were probably slaves and had remained with the families after being declared 'free'. We wanted to do the temple work for them as well - hence the name of our party - BLACK and WHITE Baptism Party!

Records were searched, names were documented, and checked in New Family Search to avoid duplication. On June 6, 2009 our grand total was 92 souls.

The festivities commence...

We all participated in a potluck dinner with a 'Southern Theme'.

Sariah and Brennan were our helpers and when the meal was over and we left for the Temple they helped their dad clean up all the dishes.

It is our sincere prayer, that all those who were baptized and confirmed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this evening, will embrace the gospel and stand with us as ETERNAL FAMILIES.

It was a tremendous blessing for us to participate in these sacred ordinances.
